The Ministry of Finance is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following contract position for a period of two (2) years in the Legal Division, Ministry of Finance:
POSITION TITLE: LEGAL OFFICER IV
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To provide legal advice to the Minister, Treasury Solicitor, Permanent Secretary, Heads of Divisions on legal matters and issues.
• To research and prepare opinions on legal issues concerning the Ministry and its Divisions.
• To advise the Ministry and its Divisions on the various Acts, Rules and Regulations.
• To evaluate current legislation and recommend reform within the ambit of the Ministry's portfolio.
• To prepare and vet legal documents including drafting instructions, legal briefs and contracts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Negotiation, mediation and arbitration skills.
• Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of industrial relations policies, principles and practices.
• Knowledge of Public Service operations, rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of legislation which come under the purview of the Ministry.
• Knowledge of the Court Procedures and practices of Trinidad and Tobago.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
• At least nine (9) years or more experience in the practice of law.
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of legal drafting and interpretation.
• Supervisory experience in a similar related environment.
• Qualified to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the jurisdiction of Trinidad and Tobago as evidenced by the professional certification required by law.
Terms and conditions of employment on contract are to be determined by the Chief Personnel Officer.
