Role: Reporting to the Senior Nursing Officer. this Officer is required to perform general andior psychiatric nursing activities, and assists the Senior Nurse in the day-to-day operations of Hospital.
Work is performed in accordance with instructions from a professional superior, who reviews work for the maintenance of standards and adherence to instructions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs general duties such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration, blood pressure; obtains sputum. urine, blood and other specimens for laboratory examination.
- Checks and records the administration of medication and treatments;
- Oobserves patients to detect any deviation from normal conditions and prepares reports.
Gives injections and medicines as prescribed. - Nebulizes asthmatic patients.
- Keeps watch over patients with special emphasis on behaviour.
- Performs occupational and recreational therapies on patients.
- Performs relate work as required.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
- Training as evidenced by the possession of a Certificate in General or Psychiatric Nursing from a Recognized School of Nursing;
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago in General Nursing and/or in Psychiatric Nursing and required by the Trinidad and Tobago Hospital;
- Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing theory and practice;
- Some knowledge of hospital rules and regulations;
- Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions;
- Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward and an effective relationship with the mentally and physically ill;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Salary and Terms and Conditions of Employment are to be negotiated with the Chief Personnel Officer.
