The role of this job is to develop partnerships and strategic alliances with the private and public sectors in the Caribbean and with the Caribbean diaspora overseas which support cultural and educational development in the region and lead to greater trust, ties and understanding with the UK.

This is a two year fixed term contract with the express purpose of designing a long term sustainable operating model for partnership activity in the Caribbean. The possibility exists to convert this into an indefinite contract once the new operating model is seen to be working.

This British Council post will be based at our office housed within the British High Commission in Port of Spain.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy and planning: To design with Director Cuba and the Caribbean a partnership strategy and plan for the region

Business and partner relations and development: To identify and develop partnerships which support delivery of this strategy in government, civil society, the private sector, the diasporas in Europe and the Americas, and development agencies

Project design: To design, produce and co-produce a range of projects and programmes with partners that meet our strategy for the region and the needs of stakeholders, partners and customers

Leadership: To build a high performance project team in line with British Council procedures, standards and values, providing mentoring and coaching of the team and identifying opportunities for staff learning and development as required to improve team and individual performance

Finance and resource planning and monitoring: To manage resources in line with corporate requirements to achieve agreed targets.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

· A track record of developing significant partnerships with government, the private sector, foundations and development agencies
· A track record of designing and managing delivery of innovative and high impact programmes and projects in the fields of education, social development, and the arts and culture
· Proven experience in negotiation and contract management
· Knowledge of and connections with the Caribbean diaspora in the UK and the USA
· A broad understanding of social, economic and cultural issues affecting the Caribbean region
· A broad understanding of UK excellence in education, social development and the arts

· Desirable: ability to operate in Spanish (both written and spoken) at a business level.
· Relevant post-graduate qualification (education and social development and/or the arts).
